Rare Disease Program (EPOF)

The Rare Diseases Program (EPOF) at the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) has the mission of transforming scientific knowledge into concrete solutions to improve the lives of those living with these conditions.

Rare diseases affect fewer than one person per two thousand inhabitants. However, what seems exceptional on an individual level becomes a major health challenge when considering that there are more than eight thousand different diseases within this category, impacting millions of people and their families.

Many of these diseases lack timely diagnosis, adequate treatments, or sufficient research. Therefore, promoting science in this field is not just an academic endeavor: it is an urgent necessity.
